Biography

Dr. Ofelia Cervantes Villagómez is professor of computer science and director of the Innovation for Development (INNOVA4D) research group at Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP), Mexico. She holds a Master of Sciences in Computer Systems from École Supérieure en Informatique in Grenoble, France and a Ph. D. degree  from  Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France. Dr. Cervantes-Villagómez is co-founding member of the Laboratorio Nacional de Informática Avanzada, A.C. (National Laboratory for Advanced Informatics, A.C.) established in Jalapa. Ver. She has served in several CONACYT committees to promote cooperation among Information Technologies research groups from Mexico, France, the United States, and Germany. Dr. Cervantes participated in the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) invited by the US Department of State.  She received the award of the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund for organizing at UDLAP the Summer Leadership Program for Indigenous University Students. Her research interests lie in the areas of Data Science, Natural Language Processing and Human-Computer Interaction applied mainly to Smart Cities. She has been a visiting professor   at the Université Joseph Fourier in Grenoble France and the Université du Québec à Trois Rivières, Québec, Canada. She has served as president of the Mexican Artificial Intelligence Society, president of the Mexican Association for International Education, founder and president of the first Chapter of the International Association of International Educators Phi-Beta Delta and has been a member of the National Researchers System.  She is also Honorary France Consul in Puebla since 2003. From her actions promoting cooperation between France and Mexico she was condecorated by the President of the French Republic as Chevalier de l´Ordre National du Merit.
