    INAOE does scientific research, technological development, graduate courses and popularization of science in four main areas: astrophysics, optics, electronics and computer science. Located in Tonantzintla, Puebla, the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) was founded on November 11, 1971. INAOE is part of a long standing scientific tradition which dates back to 1942, when Luis Enrique Erro founded the National Astrophysics Observatory of Tonantzintla. It is one of the leading research centers in Mexico, part of the network of national research labs of CONACYT.
